Dr. Artise Stewart - Veterinarian

Dr. Artise Stewart's passion for veterinary medicine began as a youngster.

"I grew up watching channels like National Geographics which sparked my interest in caring for animals and animal conservation." As time went on, she developed her interest in small animal medicine and surgery. Since her graduation from Veterinary School in 2005, she has practiced in Seattle, Boston, Charleston, Tampa and now has settled here in the Charlotte area since 2019. "While practicing in Boston, I realized I wanted to give my patients additional care for chronic orthopedic conditions. I found so many of my patients went on drugs without addressing their mobility issues and the client's concerns. This prompted me to obtain my certification in Canine Rehabilitation from the University of Tennessee."

While in Charleston, Dr. Stewart started the rehabilitation and physical therapy department at a large specialty hospital, worked in a small animal practice, and began teaching at the Veterinary Technical College. Dr. Stewart describes her passion for teaching this way, "Working in many different small animal practices, I came to realize the importance and value of our veterinary nurses and their knowledge and skills. I love seeing the light bulb go off and the excitement when students learn new skills. This sparks energy and passion in my love for veterinary medicine." From that realization, she has since taught at Veterinary Technical Colleges in South Carolina and Florida…all while continuing to practice veterinary medicine.

As for her joining our team, "The thing I love most about Wilkinson Animal Hospital is the amazing staff and the learning opportunities provided to the entire staff. I love the special bond that develops between our pet patients, our clients, and our veterinary team. It's great when clients become lifelong friends due to our relationship formed from caring for their pet."

Dr. Stewart lives with her husband, daughter, and dog, Basil. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family biking, exploring new parks, baking, trying out new restaurants, and traveling internationally to explore different cultures.
